Quiz categories
The Quiz tab shows 16 category tiles. Tapping one starts a session immediately using the Questions and Time Limit values set above the grid.
Twelve of them are question-and-answer quizzes; four are different activity types (number listening and the three Speaker loops) and have their own pages.

Shared controls in every quiz
- Header — a ✕ button to end the session, the question counter (
Question 3/10), a running correct/incorrect tally, and the countdown timer. Tapping the timer also offers to end the quiz. - Speaker icon — replays the Dutch audio. If the icon shakes, that clip could not be fetched; see 16 – Troubleshooting.
- Bookmark icon — saves the item to the Bookmarks tab.
- Hint (lightbulb) — reveals the English translation or a definition. Using a hint does not affect scoring.
- Next — appears at the bottom once an answer has been given.
- Pull down to refresh — swaps the current question for a different one, useful if a question looks wrong.
- Explanation — several categories show a grammar explanation after the answer is revealed.
Answer buttons turn green for the correct answer and red for a wrong choice; when the customer is wrong, the correct answer is highlighted in green as well.
The categories in detail
Prepositional Objects
A Dutch sentence with a blank; the customer picks the preposition the verb requires (wachten op, denken aan). The verb is shown below the sentence, and Hint reveals its definition. Wrong options are drawn from the other prepositions used in the app, so they are always plausible.
Perfect Tense (hebben/zijn)
A Dutch sentence in the perfect tense with the auxiliary verb blanked out. The customer chooses the correct form of hebben or zijn (heb, heeft, hebben, ben, is, zijn…). This is one of the most common problem areas for Dutch learners and one of the largest categories in the app.
Verb Translation
A single Dutch verb is shown in large blue text. The customer chooses its English meaning from four options. Hint shows an example sentence using the verb.
Adjectives
The same format for Dutch adjectives.
Separable Verbs
The separable verb and its English meaning are shown, plus a badge naming the sentence type (main clause, subordinate clause, perfect tense, and so on). Three complete Dutch sentences are offered and the customer picks the one that splits and positions the verb correctly. An explanation follows the answer.
Audio in this category plays only after an answer is chosen — hearing the correct sentence first would give the answer away.
Modal Verbs
A Dutch sentence with the modal verb (kunnen, moeten, mogen, willen, zullen) blanked out, plus a Context badge describing the situation. Hint shows the English sentence, and an explanation follows the answer.
Position Verbs
The same layout, for the Dutch position verbs (staan, liggen, zitten, hangen, zetten, leggen…) that English speakers usually collapse into "put" and "be".
Reflexive Verbs
A Dutch sentence with the reflexive verb phrase blanked out (zich herinneren, zich vergissen). The verb appears on a badge beneath the sentence, Hint shows the English, and an explanation follows.
Present Conjugation
The infinitive is shown in large text, with the Dutch sentence and its English translation below. The customer types the correctly conjugated form into a text field and taps Check Answer. The keyboard opens automatically and autocorrect and auto-capitalisation are turned off. If the answer is wrong, the correct form is shown.
Past Conjugation
The same, for the simple past.
Prepositions (Time/Place)
A Dutch sentence with a blank for a time or place preposition (in, op, om, aan, naar, bij…), with a Context badge, Hint and explanation.
Er Usage
An English sentence is shown; the customer picks which of four Dutch sentences uses er correctly. A badge names the type of er being tested (for example "Quantitative er"). The explanation and the audio for the correct sentence appear after answering.
What ends a session
- All chosen questions answered → Quiz Complete!
- The timer reaches zero → Time's Up! The Results screen then also shows how many questions were left.
- ✕ or the timer button → End Quiz? confirmation. Ending this way discards the session; no score, XP or streak is recorded.
For support: a session that ran out of time still counts — XP is awarded and the streak is recorded as long as at least one question was attempted. Only the +50 perfect-quiz bonus requires finishing every question. Abandoning via ✕ records nothing.
Where the questions come from
Questions are stored in a read-only database bundled inside the app, so quizzes work without a network connection (only the audio needs one). Settings → Statistics → Quiz Data shows the total number of questions and a breakdown by category and CEFR level — useful when a customer asks how much content there is, or why a particular level feels thin.
