Membership and billing

How access works

Verbie is free to download and includes a 30-minute free preview of the entire app. Nothing is held back during the preview — every quiz category and every Speaker activity is available. After the preview is used up, practice requires a Verbie Membership, a monthly subscription bought through the App Store.

The free preview

  • 30 minutes total, not per day.
  • Only time inside an active practice session counts. Browsing categories, reading Bookmarks, adjusting Settings and using Translate consume none of it.
  • The clock only runs while Verbie is on screen. Switching apps or locking the phone pauses it.
  • Remaining time is shown in Settings → Membership ("18 minutes remaining of your free preview") and on the membership screen itself.

When the preview runs out, the current session stops, Verbie switches to the Settings tab, and the membership screen appears. Attempting to start any practice afterwards brings the same screen up.

For support: preview time is recorded against the customer's App Store purchase identity, not just the device, so deleting and reinstalling the app does not restore the 30 minutes.

Subscribing

Settings → Membership → Subscribe, or the screen that appears when the preview ends.

The membership screen is Apple's own subscription sheet, so the price, currency, billing period and any introductory offer shown there are the authoritative ones. Payment, renewal and cancellation are all handled by Apple through the customer's App Store account.

Once active, Settings → Membership reads Manage Membership — Your Verbie Membership is active, and the preview counter disappears.

Restoring a purchase

Settings → Membership → Restore Purchases

Use this when a customer has paid but Verbie does not recognise it — after reinstalling the app, on a new device, or if the membership screen keeps appearing.

The button shows "Restoring Purchases…" while it works. If it fails, an error appears in red beneath it; that exact wording is worth capturing in a support ticket.

Things to check before escalating:

  1. The device is signed in to the same Apple Account that made the purchase. This is by far the most common cause — a family member's account, or a different regional account.
  2. There is a working internet connection.
  3. The subscription is genuinely still active: iOS Settings → [name] → Subscriptions.

A membership bought with Family Sharing enabled is available to family members; without it, it is only available to the purchasing account.

Managing, cancelling and refunds

All of this happens with Apple, not with Verbie. Verbie cannot cancel a subscription, change a plan, or issue a refund.

Request Where to send the customer
See or cancel the subscription iOS Settings → [their name] → Subscriptions → Verbie
Change the payment method The same Subscriptions screen, or their App Store account settings
Request a refund reportaproblem.apple.com, or Report a Problem in their App Store purchase history
See past charges Their App Store purchase history

Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues to the end of the paid period. Cancelling does not restore the free preview.

Common questions

"I paid but Verbie says my preview has ended." Tap Restore Purchases, then verify the Apple Account. If it still fails, collect the error text, the Apple Account email domain (not the full address), the device model and the iOS version, and escalate.

"I only used it for five minutes and it says my preview is over." Preview time is tracked against the App Store identity, so a reinstall does not reset it — earlier use on the same account counts. Also confirm they are not seeing an unrelated error message.

"Why is my preview time different on my iPad?" It is shared, not doubled. The same purchase identity is used across the customer's devices.

"Can I have a longer trial?" Verbie cannot extend it. Note the request and escalate if the customer is unhappy — this is a product decision, not a support one.

"I was charged after cancelling." The charge is Apple's; direct the customer to reportaproblem.apple.com. Verbie has no access to their billing records.

"Does the membership include the Apple Watch app / Translate / everything?" Yes. There is one membership and it covers the whole app; there are no tiers, add-ons or one-off purchases.
