Connecting Google Docs and Sheets

Updated October 30, 2026

If you already maintain your FAQs, policies, price list, or a staff directory in Google Drive, connect the file instead of copying it. We re-read it on a schedule and keep the chatbot in sync with whatever it says.

How do I connect a Doc or Sheet?

  1. In Google, share the file so that anyone with the link can view it: Share → General access → Anyone with the link → Viewer.
  2. In the dashboard, go to Knowledge → Google Docs & Sheets → Connect Doc or Sheet.
  3. Paste the normal share or edit link.
  4. Set a refresh interval (default 1440 minutes — daily) and click Connect.

There's no OAuth and no Google account to authorize. We read the file the same way any link-holder would, which is why the sharing setting is the one thing you must get right.

Can I sync a specific tab of a Sheet?

Yes. If the link points at a specific tab (it carries a gid), that tab is what gets synced. Copy the link with the tab you want open.

Why isn't my file syncing?

The usual cause is sharing. If the file is restricted to specific people, we can't read it — set General access to Anyone with the link → Viewer and hit Sync now.

When would I use this instead of a Note?

When someone else owns the content and updates it. A Note is right when you want the knowledge to live here; a connected Doc is right when the source of truth is already in Drive and you don't want two copies drifting apart.
